Meet the Author:
Destinny Fletcher, also known as “Deolinda Abstrac,” is a woman who inspires womanhood through her captivating voice. Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, art is both her passion and her greatest enigma. She self-published her recent poetry collection, "Black Girl Be Storm," in May 2016 and "Fireflies & Peroxide" in May 2014. Destinny continues to captivate audiences in various cities she visits.
She has served as a High School Slam League Coach for Still Waters Collective and mentored under Dasha Kelly from 2012 to 2016. Destinny was a 2012 State Poetry Slam Finalist and competed in the 2013 LTAB (Louder Than a Bomb) College Team Slam. In addition to her poetry, she has showcased her acting talents in stage plays, including Yetta Young's "Butterfly Confessions" in November 2015 and June 2017, and “UNTAMED” in July and October 2016 with Milwaukee's community theater group, MPower Theater. She also collaborated in "UW-Milwaukee Women's Resource Center Presents: The Vagina Monologues" in February 2016 and 2017.
In the realm of film, Destinny Fletcher has become an award-winning poet for her work, including the pieces “the beautiful: the Stories She Tells” and “The Beckoning,” which have received global recognition. She is determined to share her story with the world and convey her powerful narrative as a survivor.
